How should the card be used to increase your score?
Apply for a $200 secure credit card – which requires a $95 Program Fee upon applying.
- As soon as you get the card in the mail, call the number on the back of the card and immediately pay the balance down to $10.
(When you call, card will have a $50 balance for the Annual Fee.)
The card will report to credit reporting agencies soon after you make this payment. The goal here is: we want the first balance reported to be $10. - Then keep the balance between $1 and $10, not $0 – until your major purchase is complete. If you are required to make the payment in full in any month, then make the payment on the due date.
- Never, ever be late in any payment on this card as long as you have it. If you are late, you will undo any positive results achieved and damage your score.
